On March 8, a reminiscence workshop (WS) was conducted in Tainan, Taiwan.
The workshop was organized mainly by the Taiwan research team and held in the Jibei community, a settlement known for being home to the Siraya people (Siraya / 西拉雅族), one of the Indigenous groups of Taiwan. The Siraya are classified as a subgroup of the Pingpu peoples and are mainly distributed in the Tainan region.
The workshop began with a field walk through the community guided by Professor Alak Akaduan, who is himself Siraya and a resident of the settlement. During the tour, participants visited various important places in the village, including a chapel dedicated to five ancestors. Professor Akaduan demonstrated and explained ancestral rituals performed there, while participants also explored sites such as the former communal washing area and traditional local shops.
The reminiscence workshop itself was later held at the community gathering hall. Six elderly participants from diverse ethnic backgrounds, all of whom regularly participate in workshops organized by the Taiwan team in Tainan, gathered together to share memories related to traditional food culture. The session was facilitated by Mukuy from the Taiwan team.
The workshop provided a valuable opportunity to reflect on memories, food culture, and community life within the multicultural social context that characterizes Taiwan.
